Night of Ancient Beliefs at Stobnica Castle
October 31, 2026 | Please join us after 4:30 p.m., when dusk falls
As the autumn forest sinks into darkness, familiar sounds take on a different meaning. A rustle in the underbrush, the crack of a branch, singing coming from the water… Is it just the wind?
Join us for the Night of Ancient Beliefs —an evening inspired by Slavic tales, the Dziady rituals, and visions of a world in which humans were never completely alone. Discover how our ancestors imagined encounters with the afterlife, what they feared after dark, and what role fire played in their beliefs.
Step into the world of tales from long ago
Who were the beings that our ancestors feared? How did people recognize their presence, and what was supposed to protect them from encountering them?
That night, on the Forest Educational Trail near Stobnica Castle, you’ll meet characters from Slavic beliefs and folk tales. You’ve probably heard some of their names before, while others you’ll discover only as you walk. Each encounter will be an opportunity to hear a different story—about the forest, water, and what, according to ancient beliefs, lurked just beyond the reach of the eye.
Amid the autumn trees, by the light of lanterns and torches, you’ll discover just how many extraordinary stories have been preserved in the tales passed down from generation to generation.
Feel the power of the element of fire
Fire illuminated the darkness, marked out a circle of safety, and sparked the imagination. During the Night of Ancient Beliefs, it will also take center stage—the glow of the flames, the sparks, and the fiery spectacle will complete the atmosphere of the evening, when ancient tales will come to life right beside you.
Bring a light source with you
The Forest Educational Trail is not lit. Be sure to bring your own light source: a flashlight, headlamp, or battery-powered lantern. Also, be sure to wear comfortable shoes and warm clothing suitable for an autumn evening in the woods.
We’ll meet on October 31, 2026, after 4:30 p.m., on the Forest Educational Trail near Stobnica Castle.
